*Health and well-being*
Apart from the standard vaccinations (tetanus, polio, whooping cough, diphtheria, hepatitis B), no vaccination is required to visit Morocco. However, some vaccines are useful for the individual protection of the traveler. In case of prolonged rural stays, it is strongly recommended to get preventively vaccinated against rabies.
To avoid any food poisoning or illness, it is recommended to:
- Wash your hands before meals
- Wash and peel fruits and vegetables
- Eat well-cooked meat
- Avoid prolonged exposure to the sun
In case of diarrhea containing mucus, pus, blood, or accompanied by fever, it is strongly recommended to consult a doctor. For simple loose stools, you can use an antibiotic that slows intestinal transit. Moroccan pharmacies are generally well-stocked and doctors are well trained.
In case of a medical emergency, please call the national toll-free number *"141"*.
However, Morocco has all the assets to become a preferred destination for medical tourism. The medical profession has internationally recognized expertise, with treatment costs that are very competitive and can be up to 50% lower than in other countries.
The first "medical city" in Morocco, called *Marrakech Healthcare City*, was inaugurated in December 2016.
This medical-hotel complex includes, in addition to a clinic, a 5-star hotel with 40 rooms and a village of 56 apartments with swimming pools and private gardens.
Marrakech Healthcare City covers several specialties such as ophthalmology, neurosurgery, orthopedics, genetics, and maxillofacial surgery, and also has a beauty center, a spa, hydrotherapy, and a hammam to complete the offering.
